Problem

Starting in 2020 and moving into 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted our everyday lives on both a personal and professional level. To deal with this disruption, the construction industry needed to come up with new and creative ways to mitigate the negative impacts the virus would have on workers’ health and safety as well as their productivity.

Scope

To overcome the challenges of the pandemic, The Main Contractor and XYZ Reality worked together to deploy pioneering solutions to maintain productivity while ensuring the health and safety of staff and workers. Using The Atom's remote streaming feature, The Main Contractor set out to manage key elements of the build phase:

  • Enabling remote inspections / walkdowns
  • Improving Factory Witness Testing by engaging the different stakeholders to witness
    a remote inspection
  • Introducing remote specialist inspections affected by travel restrictions

Results

The accuracy of our AR headset, The Atom, along with its live-streaming feature, enabled construction managers to view inspections remotely from the office or from home, thereby bringing Engineering-Grade AR capabilities beyond the site. This solution reduced the workers required on-site and enabled a safe working environment. In addition, by introducing the remote inspection feature, XYZ Reality created the world’s most accurate Augmented Reality live streaming service. This became an instant success with the project team and is one of the most used features. All inspections were archived meaning zero missed inspections, therefore, maintaining productivity levels on site.
